Senior Manager, Internal Communications for a global not for profit

Location: West Toronto

Compensation: $110 – 125k

Responsible for developing, spearheading, executing and measuring the company’s internal and change communication’s strategy in a manner that supports global business objectives and drives employee engagement. 

This position is responsible for planning and managing all internal communications in line with overall marketing and communications strategy. The successful candidate will lead internal global cross-functional teams to execute the internal and change communications plan in alignment with the global business plan. 

Responsibility:  • Develops, directs, leads and executes internal, change and employee communications programs to further support and nurture culture, drive employee engagement and heighten their understanding of the business and its key objectives.  • Leads a team of Internal Communication professionals and oversees internal and change communication initiatives and programs.  • Manages, coordinates and executes all internal communications strategies targeting internal audiences, and oversees execution of strategic and tactical plans that meet company expectations and objectives. Partners with HR to support the employee engagement strategy.  • Works closely with key senior leaders, including EVP Human Resources, EVP Marketing & Communications and other leaders in the business, to build a comprehensive and aligned strategic internal and change communications plan.  • Engages and aligns with senior executives across regions/sectors/business lines to develop relevant and engaging content to educate, motivate and inspire employees.  • Drives development of positioning, messaging and branding internally to leverage employees as brand advocates in the marketplace.  • Develops and implements internal communications materials in strategic alignment with PR, Marketing and Digital teams to ensure timely global coverage.  • Exercises independent decision-making in order to evaluate and leverage multiple communications vehicles (such as newsletters, intranet, magazines, speeches, audio/visual presentations, executive blogs, videos, etc.) that best support internal communications and employee engagement objectives.

  • Leads development of high-level speeches and introductory remarks for key executives and maintains ongoing communications with employees at all offices.  • Working with IT, leads and manages corporate intranet, including development of a long-term roadmap that leverages latest and emerging web tools and technologies that best support internal communications and employee engagement objectives.  • Working with HR, is accountable for measuring and reporting on employee engagement results as measured by employee surveys.  • Manages internal communications budget for staffing, resources, and capital purchases, and manages extended team of third-party partners and vendors to develop and execute key communications initiatives.  • Exercises decision-making in the selection and management of writers, consultants and other service providers to complete project implementation and maintain quality control.  • Acts as the first point of contact for all Internal Communications inquiries within the organization.  • As a key member of the Crisis Communications Team, acts as the first point of contact for Internal Communications in the event of a crisis.  • Works with colleagues on messaging and programs that support the company’s HR mission and demonstrates the employee value proposition in action through various media (LinkedIn, social media, etc.).  • Provides direction and leadership to direct reports. Hires and trains staff. Establishes employee priorities and assignments. Assists in the growth of employees through training and career development activities.
  • Education: • University degree or college diploma in marketing, communications, public affairs or journalism,
  • Experience: • Minimum of 15+ years of experience in a marketing or communications management position, preferably B2B  • Global experience in implementing programs and messaging in multiple regions / languages Skills:  • Demonstrated track record in successfully implementing change management program  • Exceptional knowledge of marketing/communications strategies, concepts and practices  • A track record of performance excellence meeting targets and objectives  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to articulate a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals  • Executive presence and ability to advise and counsel senior executive leadership and management team  • High level of integrity and confidentiality  • Proven relationship management ability with manager, peers, team, key stakeholders, senior leaders, vendors and customers  • Ability to manage multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills, including ability to work with limited or ambiguous data or information  • Ability to make independent, data-driven business decisions in support of projects, goals and/or objectives in a timely and responsible manner • Able to compile and analyze performance data to develop metrics that support decision-making for resource allocation and subsequent campaigns
  • A natural leader able to effectively motivate cross-functional teams, but also ready to pitch in and roll up the sleeves as the situation requires
