Product Development Manager – Foodservice/Restaurant Supply

Location:  Markham

Compensation:  $85 – 110k plus bonus and benefits

A premier leader in global food service & retail products distribution is looking for an ambitious Product Development Manager or Product Designer to join their dynamic team. You’ll be part of a group of designers developing products for the company’s food service division, including but not limited to cookware, cutlery and tabletop products. You will work with materials such as stainless steel, plastics, resins and textiles. You’ll work in a group setting alongside other designers as well as directly with management and key executives to create compelling products for our worldwide customers. We’re looking for senior level designers with the skill and courage to explore new and unconventional ideas, combined with the ability to collaborate respectfully with a team.

Looking for a strategic and driven individual who possesses strong analytics, program management and financial skills to orchestrate strategic planning. Candidates for the role will lead new product development from creation to commercialization and drive continual product improvements and propose new product ideas based on ongoing customer research, market/competitive analysis, and product performance. They will also be responsible for ensuring that the new products delight our consumers, are meaningfully differentiated and meet key business objectives including timing and cost goals.


  • Lead development of products, and various other product launches in the foodservice category from creation to commercialization
  • Key activities include developing product development briefs and timelines, establishing product development requirements (i.e. key benefits / features, product specifications), package direction and coordination, consumer performance and testing, sampling and preliminary pricing analysis, overseas communication with suppliers and tracking of projects
  • Maintain great relationships with existing suppliers and manufacturers and establish new relationships with reliable vendors
  • Project manage objectives, strategy, resources, costs and schedule to ensure smooth product development & launch
  • Proactively monitor industry trends and stay abreast of the competitive beauty market by assessing product trends, competitor items, pricing, and trade exhibit findings
  • Partner collaboratively with marketing and operations to ensure product launches are innovative, timely and well branded
  • Develop competitive analysis reports for all new product development launches (i.e. product positioning recommendations and identification of customer and market needs)
  • Work with customer service team to conduct surveys of consumer trends with current customer base
  • Qualifications:
  • 8 – 15 years of new product development experience including experience sourcing and working with overseas suppliers (must be in Foodservice)
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic
  • Aesthetic eye with superb Photoshop and other technical Design skills plus previous branding/marketing experience
  • Strong business fundamentals and a background in eCommerce – An asset
  • Mandarin language – An asset
  • Able to balance marketing creativity with great project management skills and stay super organized and detail oriented
